  • Neurochemical theory – tests indicate that floating increased the secretion of endorphins and at the same time it reduces levels of several stress-related neurochemicals.

But that’s not all; since the idea of float therapy began back in the 1950’s, various studies have been undertaken, in an attempt to truly understand the effects and benefits.

Studies have revealed that by removing human senses for brief periods of time by eliminating external stimuli, an individual’s central nervous system’s processes are condensed or reduce by a staggering 90% and this significant reduction allows individuals to draw their energy inwards which is also regarded as a parasympathetic response. This response is the method through which the human body naturally rejuvenates itself as it attempts to achieve internal metabolic and chemical balance.

Studies have also found individuals floating in a floatation tank trigger a deep relaxation response that is more intense than normal sleep due to the fact that these tanks allow those floating in it to glide into the elusive Theta State which in most case scenarios is very difficult to achieve.

Therefore, whilst float therapy is a relatively simple concept, the benefits remain incredible.
